Directions for Set Up

  1. WIFI – all players must connect to same WIFI network. A WIFI hot spot can be used as a network, but it cannot be provided by any player’s cell phone.
  2. Bluetooth – all players except the scorekeeper (the person with the Bluetooth ring) must turn their Bluetooth off. The scorekeeper connects her/his Bluetooth ring to her/his cell phone.
  3. All players fire up the PB Score app. All except scorekeeper swipe up (for a blue background) or down (for a red background) in accordance with the legend below:

  4. In the app, the scorekeeper then hits the Bluetooth ring icon (located in the center of the cell phone screen). Pressing the icon must be done within ten seconds of when the other players swipe (e.g. Step 3 above) so that players from other courts (if any) do not accidentally join the same game. If players from other courts have accidentally joined, those players should close their app, fire it up again, and redo steps 3 and 4 above.
  5. When the scorekeeper and the other three players are joined in the same game, within 10 seconds all screens will show a zero score. If this does not happen, all players (including scorekeeper) should close the app, fire it up again, and redo steps 3 and 4 above.
  6. Place phones in their protective cases near the ends of the net before playing.
  7. Note: These steps above (1-6) do not need to be redone if multiple games are played in succession. At the end of the first game the screens will reset appropriately.

Near end-of-game scoring

  1. To make the numbers as large and clear as possible, the app shows the score of 10 as a zero with a small vertical line in it.
  2. No score larger than ten is shown. In a close game, when both teams have ten points or more, a winner “wins by 2”. The following characters are displayed:
    • + means that the team is up by 1. If the team scores the next point, it wins the game
    • - means that the team is down by 1. If the team loses the next point, it loses the game
    • = means that the team is tied. It must score two points in a row to win the game
